A Page Can Change the World, Mark Wesling, 10/1/09

A Page Can Change the World

A page can change the world
It can move a boulder effortlessly
Open the shades in the morning
And consume emotions and thoughts

It can live a thousand years
Reach millions of people
Influence countless rulers and teachers
And inspire great works of art

It can be as light as a feather
Or as loud as the Liberty Bell
It only appears to be quiet
Until it starts to ring

It remains in the finest of collections
A testament to recorded history
It holds the breath of the day
And the outpouring of a mind

Though the paper is delicate and fragile
The words are carved in stone
The thoughts are continually shared
In the memory of the page

Bricks and Mortar, Mark Wesling, 10/2/08

Bricks and Mortar

Excuses rain down
Like the enemy of peace
While the hopeful warriors
Are riveted with anger

The plan is simple,
Thoughtful and kind
Just as feathers can lift
A bird to great heights

A rolling discussion
Can be a perfect strike
With attention to focusing
On the good of the whole

Let greed stand alone
And put brotherhood in its place
The night is waiting
For the clear morning air

Bricks and mortar
Opportunity and faith
Gratitude for the day
And a memory full of charm

This Wondrous Meeting, Mark Wesling, 3/2/04

This Wondrous Meeting

Simple gestures, we do wait
Our lives foretold and we wait
Our safest direction we debate
Get there early, don't be late

In each person's life, a moment comes
A guiding hand, some know from
Till the afterglow and we are done
And water flows and we are one

The paper curls and pencil moves quietly
I am thankful for this sobriety
Another time, my will would have fought me
The images not always so sightly

With miracles around every corner
I wish I could have really known her
Her graceful walk with garden flowers
Her beautiful voice, Rose, I call her

Well as the morning dances, I sew words again
They have always been a constant friend
I don't fear the night, for if it ends
And I don't ask why, how or when

In simple past and apples eaten
Life didn't escape me or leave me beaten
In the blink of an eye, I see the seating
The crowns of glory, this wondrous meeting

Far and Wide, Mark Wesling, 4/27/07

Far and Wide

I would love to do most anything
From the corners to the outer ring
Each day I always try to sing
And be greatful for just everything

When you have nothing to lose
There's a chance to take
When there's nothing to prove
You have a clean slate

Picking pennies off the ground
Is a form of exercise
There's an apple in every tree
If you just open your eyes

If you believe in constant motion
And let the force carry you
You pass through every obstacle
Fufilling the work you do

If you listen to every reason
And be alive from the inside
The space you take for granted
Will lead to circles far and wide

Forgiveness, Mark Wesling, 12/27/07

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is an apple's heart
Locked away in a diamond's reign
An iris blooms in a tempest hour
A careful wave creaks the aged bow

As the planets race through timeless oceans
My Father waits for the winds to change
For the iron to get hot
And for the suffering to spill over into yesterday

I am reminded of the way, the truth and the light
And am frightened by the candle's opera
The mist washes slightly the dry eyes of regret
A raging beat holds the sky up forever

As new wings build a stronger nest
The river teaches its lesson of patient prayers
A wondering soul does find faith
In the friendship of spirits and the laughter of the night

Enlist the sun in the beggar's escape
Delight in the moon's soft glow
A blue gray blanket warms the night
And leaves the rain for another day
